LAHORE: Stephen Constantine’s contract as head coach of Pakistan’s men’s football team with the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) has officially come to an end.
Appointed by the Haroon Malik-led Normalization Committee in September 2023, Constantine guided the national team to its first-ever appearance in the second round of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, following a historic win over Cambodia.
“They really did make history. Got me the win and even ended up smashing two cakes in my face,” Constantine jokingly told Al Jazeera in an exclusive interview.
In his farewell message, Constantine expressed gratitude to the PFF for trusting him with the role and highlighted Pakistan’s landmark victory over Cambodia in the World Cup Qualifiers’ first round.
“I’m incredibly grateful to the PFF for the amazing opportunity to lead Pakistan’s national team. We shared some unforgettable moments, especially the win over Cambodia at Islamabad’s Jinnah Stadium on October 17, 2023. Those scenes will stay with me,” Constantine remarked.
Reflecting on his time with the team, he praised the unwavering support from his staff and thanked everyone who backed him through the challenging journey.
Constantine also commended Pakistan’s football fans for their passion, attributing the team’s success to their wholehearted support.
“There’s a huge love for football among Pakistani fans, and their immense support for the national team enabled us to make history,” Constantine added.
PFF Normalization Committee chairman Haroon Malik expressed appreciation for Constantine’s contributions to Pakistani football.
“The nation will always remember Pakistan’s achievements in the World Cup qualifiers. Stephen Constantine’s impact on Pakistan football will not be forgotten,” Malik said.
